Nicole Miller OTR/L, CLT

Nicole is a Wisconsin native, but has been calling Illinois home since 2007.   She is a 2004 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Over her career she has worked primarily on treatment of the upper extremity in both the outpatient and inpatient setting. Her primary focus and area of interest continues to be rehabilitation of  upper extremity from the shoulder to the hand, including fractures, tendon injuries, post surgical rehab and orthosis fabrication. She is a member of ASHT, The American Society of Hand Therapists.  In addition to her focus in upper extremity rehabilitation, Nicole also became a certified lymphedema therapist in 2012 treating lymphedema and post-operative swelling.

Nicole is available to work with patients:

  • On Mondays and Wednesdays:  7:00am-3:30pm
  • On Fridays:  7:00am-1:00pm

Veena Vellookunnel, OTR/L

Veena graduated in December of 2013 with her Masters in Occupational Therapy from St. Catherine University in Minnesota. Veena always had a strong interest in orthopedic rehabilitation, sports medicine, and neurorehabilitation. She decided to complete a specialty clinical in hand therapy after graduation and previously worked on an inpatient rehab team where she gained experience with a variety of patients. Veena has a background in dancing, violin, and sports nutrition. She strives to provide client centered care and hopes to improve the patient’s experience by creating personalized treatment plans. She enjoys working with all age groups and demographics. She is a member of the American Occupational Therapy Association and Chicago Metro Hand Study Group. Currently, Veena’s main interests include rehabilitation of the upper extremity from the shoulder to hand and custom orthosis fabrication. Veena received her Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from Carroll University in Wisconsin.

Our Physical Therapists

Melissa Hawkins PT, DPT, ATC, OCS

Melissa has worked as a Physical Therapist since 2006. With her previous work experience as a Certified Athletic Trainer, Melissa quickly took an interest to outpatient orthopedics and graduated with her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Northwestern University.  Melissa holds priority in Clinical Education and received credentialing as a Clinical Instructor by the American Physical Therapy Association in 2010. In addition Melissa opted to pursue advanced clinical skills by completing an Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency program, successfully finishing the program in 2011, and subsequently passing the examination to become an Orthopedic Certified Specialist by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties in 2014.  Melissa’s areas of interest include sports medicine and dance injury prevention.  She holds an additional certification as a Performance Enhancement Specialist.  Melissa received her Bachelors degree in Exercise Science from The George Washington University in 2001, and when not treating patients, serves as a Reservist in the United States Marine Corps.

Jennifer Myers, PT, DPT

Jennifer graduated from Midwestern University with her Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree in April of 2011. She enjoys treating all types of patients and looks forward to creating treatment plans that are individualized to meet each patient’s unique needs.  More specifically Jennifer has a special interest in dance medicine rehabilitation and treatment for runners and endurance athletes.  These interests stem from her history and past experience with classical ballet and theater, and current interest in distance running. As part of her post-graduate continuing education, Jennifer has been trained to use Dartfish movement analysis software.  Using this along with clinical skills, she is able to offer Video Gait Analysis at Lake Cook Orthopedic’s Fieldhouse Office, for appropriate patients to view a slow motion breakdown of their running form.

Kathy Pomerleau, PT

Kathy has worked as a licensed physical therapist in outpatient orthopedics for over 12 years. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Therapy from Northern Illinois University in 1999. Since graduating, Kathy has taken numerous continuing education courses, including classes in the McKenzie and Maitland techniques. Kathy is also a certified ASTYM clinician, and she is credentialed as a Clinical Instructor by the American Physical Therapy Association. Kathy’s area of interest is in treating recreational athletes of all ages. In addition to her undergraduate degree in physical therapy, Kathy holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin.

Janelle Summerkamp, PT, DPT

Janelle has been a licensed physical therapist since 2010. Although she has clinical experience in a variety of physical therapy settings, including skilled nursing rehabilitation and pediatrics, outpatient orthopedics is her main area of interest. She enjoys working with the wide variety of patient conditions, ages, and ability levels that can be seen in the outpatient orthopedic environment. She has continuing education experience in core stabilization and manual therapy techniques, as well as orthotics evaluation and fabrication. Before receiving her DPT from Rosalind Franklin University in 2010, Janelle worked as a Rehabilitation Aide allowing her to gain experience in patient care.
