Dr. Richard Kang is a board certified orthopedic surgeon, fellowship trained in Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery. He performs arthroscopic and other minimally invasive procedures of the hip, shoulder, knee, and elbow. “My objective is to delay or prevent the onset of arthritis and the need for a joint replacement, I do this by utilizing modern techniques to preserve the natural joint”.

He received his undergrad degree at Northwestern University, then completed a combined MD/MS program at Rush Medical College and the Graduate College of Rush University. Dr. Kang then went on to an orthopedic surgery residency at Rush University Medical Center and completed his fellowship training at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.

Prior to joining IBJI, Dr. Kang was an Attending Surgeon and served as the Director of Hip Preservation and Arthroscopy at the University of Chicago Hospital. He has published extensively, including peer-reviewed manuscripts, book chapters, and surgical technique videos. As well, Dr. Kang teaches surgical techniques at the Orthopaedic Learning Center where he provides training to other surgeons from around the world.

He is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a Board Certified Subspecialist in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine. As well, Dr. Kang is an active member of several orthopedic surgery societies including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and the Arthroscopy Association of North America. Additionally, over the course of his career, Dr. Kang has served as a team physician for high school, college, and professional sports teams, and currently he is an affiliate team physician for the New York Mets.
